The Kaliningrad region increased exports of agricultural products by 20% in 2023, to $1.9 billion

“The Kaliningrad region has long been one of the leaders in the EXPORT of agricultural products. At the end of 2023, the region took sixth place in the country in terms of this indicator. 3.2 million tons of various types of raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished products were exported . The total cost was $1. 9 billion,” Lyskov said.

According to him, data from the regional Ministry of Agriculture shows that traditionally the main export product is fat and oil products . it includes soybean and rapeseed oil , cakes, meal, soy protein concentrate, linseed oil, which are produced by enterprises of the Commonwealth group. Supplies of oil and fat products abroad increased by 32% last year.

Grain is an important export component for the region. Having a surplus balance in grain production, the region annually exports grain crops, of which over 90% is wheat, as well as, in small quantities, corn and barley.

“Grain exports increased by 23%. Thus, in 2023, about 507 thousand tons of grain worth $123.7 million were sent abroad. Deliveries went to Mexico, Brazil, CHINA , Morocco and Lithuania,” Lyskov added.

He also noted that an important export direction is prepared and cannedfish , MEAT products. And although there are few enterprises that make their products for foreign countries, their performance is quite high. In 2023, more than 10 thousand tons of canned fish and meat products were exported from the Kaliningrad region.

“In general, the structure of exports from the region is quite stable. Despite anti-Russian sanctions , these supplies are gradually growing, including their geographic expansion. For example, in 2023, for the first time, shipments of sausage products left the region to Kuwait and the UAE, grain legumes to Serbia, canned fish - to Mongolia and Turkmenistan," Lyskov said.

He emphasized that the export market remains a promising area of ​​economic development for the region. The position of the region in the near future will be significantly strengthened through the implementation of new investment projects.

Thus, in 2024 , DMS Vostok LLC plans to complete the construction of a MILK processing plant worth over 3 billion rubles. The products  - milk powder and butter with a total volume of over 13 thousand tons - are partially planned for export to the countries of Southeast Asia, North Africa, and the Persian Gulf.
