Meat exports from the UK to the EU have dropped significantly

In January, pork shipments from the UK fell by almost half compared to last year's levels. Total UK exports to the EU rose 47% in the previous month after a record 42% decline in January.

In February, all food and animal exports rebounded to £700m after declining to £400m in the first month of 2021. However, in February 2020, the UK exported £900m worth of goods in these categories, indicating a continued decline of 29% post-EU.

The EXPORT of live pigs is still unavailable due to the lack of infrastructure at the border of the canal, a situation that the National Pig Producers Association is working to resolve.

In January, total shipments of pork (including by-products) fell by almost half from the previous year to just 15,600 tons. This was mainly driven by a drop in exports to the EU, which reached 2,500 tons, down 13,000 tons (-84%) compared to last year.
