When choosing an egg in a store, it is important to pay attention not only to the expiration date, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR reports. It is also necessary to assess the size of the egg, check that the shell is not damaged and there is no dirt on it, the agency said.
Thus, the size of an egg indicates its nutritional value, the Rosselkhoznadzor explained - the larger it is, the higher its nutritional value will be. In RUSSIA, five categories of eggs are distinguished depending on size, the highest grade is over 75 grams, it is rare on the shelves, usually eggs of the selected category are presented in stores, weighing from 65 to 74.9 grams, eggs of the first (55–64.9 grams ) and the second (45–54.9 grams) category. Eggs of the third category are not supplied to stores, they are used as raw materials for the production of egg products.
The safety of the egg when eaten directly depends on the condition of the shell, the department noted. If there is damage or dirt on the shell, this means that harmful elements could get under the shell, into the nutritious part of the egg. In addition, they deteriorate quickly. Typically, such eggs do not end up in stores, they are immediately sent to the production of egg products.
The shelf life of a table egg is 25 days, the Rosselkhoznadzor reminded. Spoiled eggs have a characteristic pungent odor; eating them is strictly contraindicated. Diet eggs are stored even less often, no more than a week. In this case, the expiration date of the egg is applied directly to the shell.
