The Brazilian poultry sector is forecasting another year of record results in 2021. Despite many problems in the domestic economy and abroad, the production outlook for poultry, eggs and pork looks optimistic.
During a press conference, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) said that poultry output will grow by 3.5% more and international trade will increase by 7.5% this year compared to 2020.
ABPA studies show that domestic production will be between 14.1 and 14.3 million tons. At best, this means a 3.2% increase compared to last year's total production of 13.845 million tons. If this happens, it will be the largest production ever recorded by the Brazilian poultry industry.
Brazil's egg production is expected to reach 54.503 billion this year, up 2% from the 53.533 billion eggs recorded in 2020. Again, this is a new industry record. Domestic egg consumption will reach 255 units per capita, a new historical figure, with an increase of 1.5% compared to the index recorded in 2020, when there were 251 eggs.
According to Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, the sector is focusing on domestic demand due to the critical economic situation caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
“Income support programs, economic improvement and vaccinations have set a strong demand scenario for poultry, pork and eggs in the Brazilian market. In this context, supply remains aligned with demand,” notes Santin.
In terms of the international market, Luis Rua, marketing DIRECTOR of ABPA, explains that the growing demand for poultry and pork in Asia, combined with traditional consumers such as the Middle East and the EU, has strengthened Brazil's position in the global market.
“Despite this, the sector is facing significant production cost challenges, with all-time highs for all inputs such as corn, soybean meal, diesel, plastic and cardboard packaging, electricity,” he said.
