In this issue we will look at a herd of horses that was formed more than 20 years ago from mares of the Toad breed and stallions of the Novo-Altai breed. In addition, let's talk about the economics of horse breeding.
At the time of filming, there were 560 horses in this herd. At the same time, Baurzhan Kenesbekovich notes that the average number of horses in different herds ranges from 500 to 1000 heads. In one herd, as a rule, there are approximately 300 mares and about 240-250 foals.
Filming took place on autumn pastures, where the herd will graze until the first snows. This will be followed by movement to winter pastures. The location here is good, there is a clean spring and excellent food supply. I would like to note that the lands where the pasture is now located were inhabited by people thousands of years ago. This is evidenced by numerous mounds and monuments of later periods. From time immemorial, these lands belonged to the Kazakh Naiman family.
Each herd consists of schools. A school is a group of mares, usually with foals, held by one stallion. The strength and age of the stallion determines how many mares he will have. As a rule, the school is permanent, but there are cases when a mare can go to a stronger stallion on her own, or the stallion himself will take a mare from another school.
In this herd, and in the farm as a whole, constant selection work is being carried out . Therefore, the formation of schools is carried out under the supervision of scientists, who select the best individuals in terms of their qualities for further intra-breed improvement.
I would like to note that scientific work is carried out not only by scientists who are on the staff of the enterprise, but also with the involvement of employees of specialized research institutes. Baurzhan Kenesbekovich has repeatedly noted in our videos that only close interaction between science and business allows us to solve all the tasks set for the development of the economy, especially since the plans have been ambitious - to increase the number of horses from ten to twenty thousand heads.
However, before increasing the number of livestock, the company resolves important economic issues related to the sale of both breeding horses and stallions, and horse meat.
Sales of horse meat can be carried out both in live weight and in the form of carcasses, it all depends on the desire of the buyer. At the same time, the enterprise has its own slaughterhouse. The sales geography is quite wide: Kyrgyzstan, Russia , the domestic market of Kazakhstan, and negotiations are also underway with Japan and China.
