The main mosques of Moscow will not accept parishioners for Eid al-Fitr due to COVID-19

The Moscow Cathedral, Historical and Memorial Mosques will not receive parishioners on May 13, when Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, due to the CORONAVIRUS infection. This was reported by the press service of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of RUSSIA.

“The festive prayer will take place only with the participation of the clergy of all three mosques and employees of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims and will be broadcast online,” the message says.

The online format of prayers was explained by the continued ban on holding public events in the capital in connection with covid-19 . The Department of Regional Security and Anti-Corruption of Moscow recalled that in case of violation of the ban, the organizers and participants in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr may be held accountable.

The management called the decision to abandon traditional prayers difficult, but justified. “The DUM calls on all believers to stay at home on the day of the holiday and celebrate with family members,” the organization noted.
