March 20, Minsk. Excessive consumption of starch, sugar and carbohydrates can provoke the development of caries. Such information is available on the website of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, BelTA informs.
Dentists recommend limiting the intake of starch, and replacing sugar with fruits, dried fruits, honey (3-5 teaspoons per day). Dental health can also be adversely affected by the abuse of foods rich in carbohydrates. This is especially true for sticky and sticky foods - pasta, cereals, potatoes, etc.
Among the risk factors are an unbalanced diet, poor in plant fiber, vitamins, especially vitamin D, deficiency of essential trace elements, especially calcium, fluorine. Therefore, it is so important to eat foods rich in calcium: nuts, milk and dairy products, oranges. Drinking sugary carbonated drinks is not recommended. They contain a large amount of phosphates, which stimulate the leaching of calcium from tooth enamel.
The development of the disease is facilitated by a small amount of saliva (hereditary or due to medication), hereditary predisposition, pregnancy - due to calcium leaching from the bone tissue of the future mother's teeth.
Poor oral hygiene leads to the accumulation of plaque on the teeth from food debris and bacteria. Therefore, it is necessary to rinse the mouth after each meal, brush your teeth after breakfast and before going to bed, use additional oral hygiene products - floss, brushes, irrigators.
Today, March 20, is World Oral Health Day, recognized by the World Dental Federation (FDI). For the first time Belarus joined its organization in 2016. The purpose of the World Day is to draw public attention to oral health, hygiene and prevention of dental diseases regardless of age, as well as to expand the scientific base on the impact of oral diseases on general health.
