Russian Federation uses duty-free SUGAR imports to provide industrial consumers with raw materials

37.4 thousand tons of imported sugar were imported into RUSSIA, which will not be subject to duties.

In total, 350,000 tons of white sugar will enter the country within the quota for duty-free import, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture.

“In conjunction with other measures to support and regulate the sugar industry, the duty-free import quota helps to increase the supply of sugar on the domestic market and provide industrial consumers with the necessary raw materials,” the ministry explained.

According to the publication, the main suppliers of white sugar are Algeria, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil and Germany. Duty-free entry is open from May 15 to September 30, 2021. Previously, the import duty on sugar from non-EAEU countries was $340 per ton.
