Minister of Agriculture and Food Anatoly Linevich of the President of Belarus
ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO with the leadership of the Council of Ministers told reporters about measures to preserve the number
of cattle and the reasons for mortality, BELTA correspondent reports.
As the minister emphasized, progressive agricultural enterprises are focused on working systematically, technologically and producing
MILK at a high modern level. These processes require high-producing cattle, he said. This means that less productive animals have to be culled. In total, 545 thousand heads of cows were culled in 2023, or 39% of the total livestock for the year. Most of all - in the Brest, Grodno and Minsk regions, where the highest milk yields in the country are 44%, 42% and 41%, respectively.
“We are putting our livestock on modern complexes and setting ourselves the goal of obtaining milk production at the level of advanced countries. In the Brest and Grodno regions, milk yield is above 7 thousand liters per year, in Minsk - they are close to this level. Taking this into account,
the requirements for cattle -
it must have good milk production,” explained Anatoly Linevich. “Now there are intensive methods of milk production, we want to get the maximum economic benefit. Therefore, we are aimed at getting the greatest possible return from the animal.”
To ensure the safety of livestock, reduce mortality and culling, according to the minister, strict adherence to production and technological discipline is necessary. “There are a number of other points that are worth paying attention to. We see them,” he said. For example, to preserve the number of calves from economically less stable farms, calves are collected in one farm, where they are provided with the necessary care.
“There are a lot of established rules. And they all, in principle, work. But with the improvement of technology, it is necessary to improve the approaches,” the minister is confident. He believes that it is necessary to more specifically prepare high-energy feed, create pastures around large complexes so that livestock can be grazed, and staff a veterinary service. Perhaps mobile feed laboratories should be created to adjust the animals' diets. “We are working on this,” assured Anatoly Linevich.
