November 15, Zhabinka. The Brest region has completed the harvesting of all agricultural crops. First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Valentin Zaichuk told reporters about this before a meeting with honored workers of the agro-industrial complex in Zhabinka, BELTA correspondent reports.
“The Brest region celebrates the Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers with a sense of accomplishment. Literally yesterday all work was completed: beets and the last vegetables were harvested. Around Friday-Saturday we will complete the plan for raising the plowed land. That is, in general, all work will be completed by Sunday,” - said Valentin Zaychuk. The results in the crop production industry are encouraging. For the second year in a row, the Brest region receives more than 1.7 million tons of grain in bunker weight, and together with rapeseed and corn - 2 million tons. More than 1 million tons of SUGAR beets, 100 thousand tons of vegetables have been collected - half of the republican volume. More potatoes were harvested than last year. “The region fulfilled the state order, including supplying millet and buckwheat. For the last two years, we have been consistently receiving 10 thousand tons of this cereal crop. We have a reserve of buckwheat for the needs of the region for almost two years,” noted the first vice-governor.
According to him, farmers have learned to work using technology, thereby reducing the risks from weather conditions. Modern technology also helps. Over the past two years, more than 300 new grain harvesters have been purchased for the region’s farms, thereby updating 25% of the fleet. This year, 80 energy-rich tractors will be supplied, and 7 new grain drying complexes will be commissioned.
As for livestock farming, according to preliminary information, in January - October the region will exceed the MILK yield level of 7.2 thousand kg, adding more than 400 liters of milk per cow. In the next two years, the number of dairy herds should increase to 300 thousand. “This is not our desire, but the need that exists in farms to increase the density of livestock, to work with organic matter, to load dairy farms, empty cattle places. And in the region there were about 500, by the end of the year, fulfilling the instructions of the President, we must close them,” Valentin Zaychuk said.
Currently, more than 130 livestock breeding facilities are being built in the region, including 68 with government support. “We are putting together a program, in accordance with the instructions of the HEAD of state, for 2024-2028. We are setting the task of completely switching to free-stall farming of dairy herds. We are planning the construction of two pig farms - the locations have almost already been determined in the Baranovichi and Berezovsky districts,” added the first deputy chairman of the regional executive committee.
Production achievements allowed agricultural enterprises in the Brest region to increase wages for their employees. In October, the industry average increased to Br1.6 thousand.
