Over the past six months, Khakassia has seen an impressive increase in the number of sheep - by 63 thousand heads. This significant increase has been made possible by the efficient operation of sheep farms, which are achieving high lamb yields. According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Khakassia, the birth rate of lambs from ewes and females older than one year is 90% or more.
One of the striking examples of successful sheep breeding in the region is the peasant farm of Emin Akhmedov, located in the Ust-Abakan region. In 2024 , more than 3 thousand newborn lambs were registered here, and the total number of crossbred sheep for MEAT production reached 5,960 heads. Such achievements highlight not only stability, but also growing interest in sheep farming in Khakassia.
The breeding plant of the Edilbaevsky meat and tallow breed, Mustang LLC, located in the Shirinsky district, also demonstrates good results. Here the herd size exceeds 8 thousand HEAD, and the yield of lambs this year was an impressive 98%. This confirms that breeding methods and modern technologies used on farms really work.
No less successful is the Romanovskaya coarse-wool breed of sheep, which is managed by Viva-Lab LLC in the Altai region. 421 ewes produced 785 lambs, which also indicates a high level of productivity and care for the animals. Such results allow Khakassia not only to strengthen its position in the domestic market, but also to expand EXPORT opportunities.
Currently, the total number of sheep in Khakassia is 287 thousand heads. This not only speaks to the stability and development of the industry, but also highlights the growing interest in quality products such as Khakassian lamb . The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Russian Federation, Sergei Trufanov, noted that Khakassian lamb has long become a brand familiar not only in RUSSIA, but also abroad.
Taking into account the current growth rates and the successful experience of local farms, the further goal of Khakassia is to increase the volume of sheep production. This will not only help to gain a strong foothold in the country’s food market, but will also allow us to establish supplies abroad. In conditions of growing demand for quality meat and meat products, Khakassia has every chance to occupy a significant niche in the Russian and international markets.
Sheep farming in Khakassia has potential for further development. Agricultural farms are actively introducing modern technologies, improving living conditions for animals and increasing the quality of products. it is important to note that such efforts contribute not only to the economic growth of the region, but also to the creation of new jobs, which is especially important for rural areas.
Thus, Khakassia is confidently moving towards strengthening its position in the sheep breeding industry, and the results of the first six months of 2024 serve as clear confirmation of this.
