The Office of Rosselkhoznadzor for the Republic of Dagestan took part in regional command and staff exercises to localize and eliminate a hypothetical outbreak of rabies

The events were also attended by specialists from the Rospotrebnadzor Office for the Republic of Dagestan, the anti-rabies center and heads of veterinary institutions in cities and regions of the republic.

The purpose of the exercise is to practice interdepartmental interaction in the elimination of a conditional outbreak of rabies within the framework of the mechanism for implementing the requirements of the Veterinary Rules for the implementation of preventive, diagnostic, restrictive and other measures, the establishment and lifting of quarantine and other restrictions aimed at preventing the spread and elimination of outbreaks of rabies, approved by order of the Ministry of Agriculture Russian Federation dated November 25, 2020 No. 705.

Rabies is an acute infectious disease characterized by signs of polioencephalomyelitis and is included in the list of especially dangerous animal diseases. The reservoir of the pathogen is susceptible animals of the canine, feline, and mustelid families. The pathogen is transmitted by contact (by a bite from a sick susceptible animal or by contact of its saliva with damaged skin or mucous membrane). The outcome of the disease is fatal.
