A new outbreak of African swine fever has been recorded in Moldova.

The National Food Safety Agency previously reported that five outbreaks of swine fever were registered in Moldova between January 5 and 12: two in Leova district and one each in Ungheni, Hincesti, and Stefan Voda.

"An outbreak of African swine fever was confirmed in the village of Pârlița in Fălești district. The village was placed under a 30-day quarantine , and authorities imposed strict restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus. The case was identified on January 13 after a local resident noticed symptoms in a pig on his farm and reported it to a veterinarian," the portal reports.

Entry and exit from the village, the transport of pigs, and the sale of pork are currently restricted. Local livestock farmers believe the measures are too strict, given that they comply with all sanitary regulations and the disease has not affected their animals.

African swine fever is a contagious viral disease of pigs, considered a particularly dangerous disease. While not dangerous to humans , it causes significant damage to the agricultural industry, as it is untreatable and cannot be vaccinated against in animals. The spread of the disease can only be stopped through strict quarantine measures.
