Hundreds of deer died in Kamchatka

The mass death of deer occurred in the north of Kamchatka, the reason could be that the animals strayed from the herd and could not feed themselves, the press service of the regional government said, citing the Minister of Agriculture of the region Vyacheslav Chernysh.

Earlier, a video with dead deer appeared on social networks. The author of the video reported about three hundred carcasses.

The regional government confirmed the mass death of animals, noting that the herd was driven to another site a hundred kilometers from the previous one.

To search for deer and find out the causes of the incident, a helicopter with specialists will be sent to the tundra in the Tigilsky district on Monday, the government added. The regional prosecutor's office also launched an investigation.

In total, nine reindeer breeding enterprises operate in Kamchatka. At the end of 2020, the total livestock amounted to more than 43 thousand deer.
