Morning "Filter": the traffic police of the Gomel region held a special event on the roads of the region

Monday morning is like the beginning of a new little life. After the weekend, almost all roads lead the inhabitants of the region to working days, to work places. So that no one gets hurt on the way, the traffic police of the Gomel region hold a special event "Filter". In fact, this is a test "conveyor" for monitoring the condition of motorists and traffic safety. On the morning of April 3, several checkpoints were organized in Gomel and throughout the region. BelTA correspondents joined the special event.

"Filter" is carried out for the first time on this site. A stationary camera for fixing high-speed violations is installed here, so there are no "pilots" of ground transport in this area. The goal of state traffic inspectors is to identify those who got behind the wheel drunk or without the right to drive a car.

Daria Tkacheva, the inspector of the Department for Agitation and Propaganda of the Traffic Police Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, explains: such special events are carried out as needed. "Massive working off begins on the last working day, on weekends, and also on Monday morning. In addition, today is the first day after school holidays - there are more children on the roads and streets. We do not forget about the rules for their safe transportation," she says.

Literally yesterday, on Sunday, April 2, at about 15.00 in Gomel, two people were injured as a result of an accident, one of whom was a six-year-old boy. A 37-year-old KIA driver on Borisenko Street, when turning left, did not give way to a BMW driving in the opposite direction, driven by a 33-year-old woman. From the impact, KIA rolled over on its side and collided with a Volkswagen car, which was leaving the adjacent territory. Two occupants of the BMW were injured: a 54-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy, who was driving without a child restraint and was not wearing a seat belt.

And today there are many small passengers in cars.

Six traffic police units immediately stop the maximum number of cars to check documents. At the curb - a string of 5-6 cars of different brands and years of production. In the "Filter" - and premium crossovers, and passenger cars from the Soviet automobile industry.

Motorists do not hide: even if you have been driving for many years, it is somewhat exciting when the state traffic inspector once again stops.

If everything is in order, verification of documents takes no more than 2-3 minutes. So at work, explaining the delay with the "Filter" will not work.

But if there are any questions - for example, a technical inspection has not been passed or a driver's license has been forgotten - you will have to linger. And if in the second case the case will take a maximum of 5-7 minutes, while the traffic police inspectors will check on the basis whether a person has the right to drive a car, then the conversation about the technical inspection will take place in a legal manner.

A completely different algorithm with those who allowed themselves to drive "after yesterday." By the way, this is not the only argument that the drivers give in their justification. The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee draws attention to the fact that, on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov, police officers are aimed at a principled and tough assessment of the actions of all gross violations of traffic rules, especially those who are drunk at the wheel.

"There is no such term as "residual after yesterday" in the legal field. A person is either sober or not. If there is even the slightest doubt about his condition, it is better to refuse to drive a car," explains the deputy commander of the traffic police traffic police platoon of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Alexander Lebedko.

Road guards call drunk drivers potential killers. Such drivers do not assess the risks, they are unable to objectively monitor the situation, including the traffic situation. In addition, realizing the inevitability and severity of punishment, they try in every possible way to avoid it, coming up with stupid excuses.

So, law enforcement officers recall a recent incident that occurred in the very center of Gomel - on Lenin Avenue. The drunk driver got into an accident, got out of the car and sat on the porch of one of the shops, claiming that he was not driving in this car. According to the results of a medical examination, almost 4 ppm of ALCOHOL was found in his body. And the version of his innocence in the incident was dispelled by footage from CCTV cameras and numerous eyewitnesses. Such cases receive wide publicity.

"Of course, such actions are needed. This is our security," agrees Vladimir, a Gomel resident, who calmly and without any questions passed through the "Filter".

At some point, almost simultaneously in the general stream, two lawless people in cars were "filtered out". One of them is a pensioner who was deprived of the right to manage many years ago and has not restored his documents since then. However, this fact did not prevent him from leaving on the highway. Perhaps not the first time.

The second passenger car was driven by a young man who had never received a driver's license, and for the second time in a year he came to the attention of the traffic police. He could have spent at least the next 24 hours in a temporary detention center, but his life circumstances were taken into account - two young children and a wife who was 8 months pregnant.

For such a violation, up to 15 days of administrative arrest are provided. In each case, all the nuances and circumstances are taken into account, a legal decision is made.

Another special event point in Gomel is at the beginning of Sovetskaya Street, not far from the overpass from the agro-town of Eremino.

"What happened?" - asks one of the stopped drivers Andrey. "This is just so that nothing happens," the traffic police inspector replies. Documents are being checked non-stop.

So, for three hours on Monday morning, 308 traffic violations were detected on the roads of the region. At the same time, two drivers were in a state of intoxication, nine did not have the right to drive a vehicle, and 45 violations were committed by pedestrians and cyclists.

Despite the severity of the punishment and the severity of the consequences, drunk drivers and without the right to drive continue to risk their own and other people's lives. So, in 2022, 49 accidents were registered on the roads of the Gomel region due to the fault of drunk drivers, in which 14 people died and 52 were injured. Since the beginning of this year, drunk drivers have made 7 accidents, in which 9 people were injured. For comparison: for the same period last year, 9 such accidents were registered, in which 12 people were injured.

In 2022, due to the fault of lawless people, 40 accidents occurred, in which 10 people died and 48 were injured. This year lawless people made 5 accidents, in which 7 people were injured. For the same period in 2022, 9 accidents were registered, in which 12 people were injured.

Since the beginning of this year, traffic police officers of the region have detained 404 drivers in a state of intoxication and 1562 without the right to drive.

The Regional State Traffic Inspectorate reminded: for drunk driving there is a fine of up to 200 basic units (1 BV - Br37) with deprivation of the right to drive up to five years. "For a similar violation repeated during the year - criminal liability with confiscation of the vehicle. Also, not only administrative, but also criminal liability is provided for lawless people: up to restriction of freedom for up to two years," the UGAI explained.

"Filter" and other special events will continue in the region.
