2024 were discussed at the board meeting of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee on 24 January, BELTA reports.
As the
head of the Internal Affairs Directorate Aleksandr Shastaylo emphasized, the number of all types of crimes decreased in the region last year. "The well-coordinated
work of the units in close cooperation with all stakeholders, including during the preparation and holding of important socio-political and mass events, made
it possible to maintain the necessary level of public safety," he noted.
According to the results of the year, the number of crimes in the area of criminal investigation decreased. Suspects have been identified for all intentional murders, causing grievous bodily harm, including those resulting in
death , as well as rapes.
"We have increased our efforts to identify drug crimes committed by groups of people, including organized ones. Over the past five years, we have achieved the best results in cutting off drug supply channels and eliminating premises adapted for growing drug-containing plants," the head said.
The effectiveness of work to expose people who have committed cybercrimes has also increased.
A set of preventive and practical measures has been carried out, resulting in fewer deaths from crime. "The number of criminal offenses in public places, in rural areas, committed by previously convicted persons, as well as in a state of
alcohol intoxication . The number of people killed in road accidents and elderly citizens injured as a result of criminally punishable acts has decreased," added Alexander Shastaylo.
At the same time, despite the measures taken, the number of fraudulent actions using information and communication technologies has increased, the head of the Department of Internal Affairs emphasized. "Criminals are using new, more sophisticated forms of taking possession of property. This requires additional measures aimed at preventing and solving such thefts," he emphasized.
