WHO admits an increase in the number of infected COVID by 100 million by next year

The number of people infected with coronavirus worldwide could exceed 300 million at the beginning of next year if the current rate of infection cannot be stopped. This was stated at a briefing by the DIRECTOR General of the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus.

“With the current trajectory [of the spread of the virus], we could pass the level of 300 million known cases early next year,” he warned. Ghebreyesus clarified that the actual number of people infected with coronavirus far exceeds that registered by WHO.

The HEAD of WHO noted that reaching the level of 300 million cases by next year can be avoided if people work together to fight the spread of infection. He pointed out that medical professionals already have many tools to prevent, test and treat COVID-19. However, according to him, experts still need more research among patients at different stages of the disease.

The number of cases of COVID-19 in the world exceeded 200 million people by August 5. According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, the country with the largest number of known cases of infection remains the United States (more than 36 million). They are followed by India (more than 32 million) and Brazil (more than 20 million). In RUSSIA, according to the operational headquarters, more than 6 million patients with COVID-19 have been identified.
