Flight of fancy: why does Wizz Air spend $13 billion on new planes during the crisis?

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is betting on a market recovery in 2022. The company has already ordered $13 billion worth of new aircraft.

The tourism sector is going through difficult times due to the CORONAVIRUS pandemic. As soon as one wave recedes, a new strain appears, which throws the restoration back a step. However, the Eastern European carrier Wizz Air is making plans for an intensive and rather risky business expansion.

The low-cost airline has pledged to increase passenger traffic in the summer of 2022 by 50% compared to pre-pandemic levels. For this purpose, Wizz Air plans to use larger aircraft and increase the number of flights. In November 2021, the company ordered 102 Airbus aircraft for $13 billion. The low-cost airline's bold move will either put it on par with larger competitors like Ryanair and EasyJet or make it even more vulnerable to covid-19 .
