Yuri Gorlov, October 30,
Minsk . Minister of Agriculture and Food Yuri Gorlov, speaking with the President of Belarus on the development of cooperation with African countries, told journalists which Belarusian products are in demand in that market, a BELTA correspondent reports.
He explained that the African market is relatively new for Belarusian producers, especially in certain African countries.
Work to actively develop
it, in terms of establishing contacts and exports, has only recently begun. "Nevertheless, there is a product range for which we are systematically working," the minister said. These products, he noted,
include the export of skim
milk powder and baby food. The latter is particularly in demand. Domestic industry has even adapted to the demands of the African market and supplies baby
food in tin containers.
Export contracts have already been signed. Regarding food products, prospective exports of Belarusian beef and poultry to Africa are being explored. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food is also actively collaborating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize the supply of agricultural machinery to Africa, which is essential for the development of agriculture and the resolution of the continent's pressing food security issue. Agreements have been reached on the supply of crop protection products.
Furthermore, Belarus is proposing joint projects with African countries to build agro-industrial infrastructure facilities, such as feed mills, dairy farms, and poultry farms.
"This is not a quick process—manufacturing and processing products takes time, up to several years. Nevertheless, we are taking on this work," said Yuri Gorlov. "This is not a matter for today, but we see prospects for cooperation with African countries."
According to the minister, to intensify work on the African track, increase supplies, and enhance competitiveness, further work is needed to reduce production costs and optimize the product range to meet the needs of this market.
