Analysts of the German publication Der Spiegel believe that in the event of the refusal of two-thirds (about 100 billion cubic meters) of Russian gas, the EU goal of filling gas storage facilities by the winter of this year can be achieved only if European industrial enterprises are disconnected from it in the spring and summer of 2022 . It is reported by TASS.

“Filling gas storages in accordance with the planned volumes and at the same time a strong reduction in supplies from RUSSIA will only be possible under the condition of significant restrictions for industry and power plants,” comments Jochen Linsen, professor at the Jülich Research Center.

The publication notes that in order to fill gas storage facilities by 63% by August 1, 2022, in the face of a decrease in Russian gas supplies, the EU will be forced to turn off all metallurgical, chemical and cement plants from gas until the end of July, as well as stop the operation of gas-fired power plants for the whole of July.

During the latest discussions of the sixth package of sanctions, Germany spoke in favor of an embargo on oil imports from the Russian Federation, but a number of experts are sure that the country is not yet ready for a complete rejection of Russian energy sources and that “the consequences may lead to a deeper recession   than the German Central Bank predicts” .

“Under almost any scenario, the next 18 months will be a torturous time for Europe as the effects of high prices spread around the world as governments struggle to power their factories, heat their homes and keep their power plants running. In the short term, there are not enough alternatives to avoid serious economic losses this coming winter if Russia cuts off supplies.

Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Greece are the most active against the introduction of a ban on Russian gas imports.
