According to the results of the entire 2022, the number of tourists who will have a rest in RUSSIA will grow by 4-30% depending on the region and will exceed 31 million people, Zarina Doguzova, HEAD of Rostourism, said last week. The agency expects the largest increase - up to 30% - in the south of Russia: only during the high season, from May to September, according to Doguzova, about 8 million people will rest in the southern resorts.
Rostourism clarifies that they only assessed the potential number of tourists who will stay in hotels and other classified accommodation facilities. Taking into account those who stay in the private sector (guest houses, apartments, etc.), there will be more vacationers at the resorts.
Sochi, the main Russian resort, expects to receive about 4.5 million guests from May to September 2022, Inna Petukhova told RBC through the press service of the deputy head of the city administration. This forecast takes into account not only guests who will come directly to Sochi, but also to the territory of the Imeritinsky lowland with the urban-type settlement of Sirius, which was separated from Sochi in December 2020.
The tourist flow, compared with the five months of the high season in 2021, can grow by almost 10%: then the resort received 4.1 million tourists. But according to forecasts, the tourist flow at the resort this year, according to forecasts, will not return to the pre-crisis level, which was before the start of the pandemic, follows from Petukhova’s response. In May-September 2019, almost 5 million people rested in Sochi, according to the city administration.
More than 2.6 thousand Sochi hotels with 90.8 thousand rooms are ready to receive guests in the summer. At the moment, hotels in Sochi for the summer months are booked by an average of 45%. The biggest demand, according to Petukhova, is for sanatoriums and boarding houses with treatment - 80% of the rooms are already booked in some facilities. 4 and 5 star hotels and all-inclusive accommodation facilities are also popular.
The entire Krasnodar Territory, where, in addition to Sochi, the resorts of Anapa, Gelendzhik, Goryachiy Klyuch and others are located, is not expecting an increase in tourist flow this summer compared to last year, follows from the response of the press service of the regional ministry of resorts, tourism and Olympic heritage. Kuban expects to receive as many tourists this summer as it was in the summer months of 2021: then almost 8.9 million tourists rested at the resorts.

This summer, 10.7 thousand Krasnodar hotels and other accommodation facilities with a total capacity of 257 thousand rooms are ready to receive tourists. By the summer, 14 new hotels with 645 rooms will be commissioned, the ministry said. While bookings are at the level of 2021, there is a “slight decrease” along the Azov coast. Hotels on the Black Sea coast are booked by more than 50%, Azov - up to 30%.
The demand for summer vacations in the south of Russia is now constrained by the closure of some airports, says Sergey Romashkin, general DIRECTOR of the Dolphin tour operator. On February 24, due to the start of a military special operation, the Federal Air Transport Agency announced restrictions on flights to 11 airports, including Anapa, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Rostov, Simferopol and Stavropol. The restrictions, which were initially introduced before March 2, have been extended several times and will remain in effect until at least April 13. The only major airport that continues to operate in the south of Russia is Sochi.
Bookings for summer holidays in Sochi are still at the level of 2021, confirms Romashkin. According to him, bookings to Anapa are still 15% worse than last year, and Crimea "is going twice as bad."
The press service of the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of Crimea did not provide RBC with a forecast for the number of tourists for the summer season of 2022. The situation is not easy, the Minister of Resorts and Tourism of Crimea Vadim Volchenko admitted in an interview with the Millet TV channel, adding that, nevertheless, Crimea is actively preparing for the holiday season.
The closure of the Simferopol airport was reflected "in a decrease in logistics," "but not globally, everything was offset by road and rail transport," and in the near future the republic is waiting for the launch of air traffic, Volchenko said. “Even if now there is some drop in load, this will be compensated during the high season by 150 percent or more,” promised the head of the Crimean Ministry of Resorts.
Regional airports reported a reduction in the flow of passengers Business
The demand for tours to the Crimea is stable, but now it has slowed down due to the closure of the Simferopol airport, the press service of the tour operator Intourist states. Traditionally, Crimea took second place in the sales ratings, but now it has lost this place to Anapa, although it is still among the top five Russian resorts in terms of sales, Intourist notes.
Demand for the resorts of the Crimea, as well as the Krasnodar Territory, which cannot now be reached by tour due to the closure of southern airports, is “postponed” for the time being, Evgeny Ginzburg, director of marketing for the Level.Travel online tour search and purchase service, agrees.
Waiting for new records
In the Stavropol Territory, they expect that by the end of 2022, the tourist flow to the region “may reach a completely new level”: according to the forecast of the local Ministry of Tourism and HEALTH Resorts, the number of tourists who visit Stavropol this year may exceed the figures for 2019, when in 1.6 million people rested in the region.
The officials of the Kaliningrad region are also counting on the growth of the tourist flow: in 2022 they expect more than 2 million tourists, which will exceed the level of both the pre-pandemic 2019 (1.7 million people) and the successful 2021 (1.9 million people). Andrey Yermak, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad Region, explains the increase in tourist flow by the abolition of all restrictions related to covid, as well as the fact that Kaliningrad is now becoming the main holiday destination for Russians in the West: “Instead of the Baltic States, Northern Europe, Eastern Europe, those people will come to us, who are accustomed to relaxing in a "European" atmosphere.
