MINSK . The Moscow Region became the largest market for Belarusian agricultural products among Russian regions, according to the results of exchange trades held on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange in January-August 2025. This was reported to BELTA by the BUCE press service.
In value terms, Moscow companies accounted for 39% of the total volume of exchange-traded agricultural exports to
RUSSIA. In absolute terms, this amounted to over $232 million. The most popular commodity items among Moscow Region participants were butter,
accounting for 51% of the total, as well as
MEAT products and
MILK powder,
accounting for 23% and 17%, respectively. This information was presented during a business seminar on exchange trading, organized by BUCE jointly with the Moscow Region Fund for Support of Foreign Economic Activity. The event was held in Moscow as part of the WorldFood Moscow 2025 international food exhibition.
In addition to the specifics of the Belarusian exchange platform and the practical aspects of using BUCE instruments, the seminar discussed prospects for increasing exchange trade turnover between Belarus and the Moscow region in the agricultural sector. For example, in terms of Belarusian exports, significant growth potential exists for items such as butter, whole and skim milk powder, rennet
cheeses , and
Cottage cheese ,
meat and semi-finished meat products, amino acids and wheat gluten.
"Leading producers of a full range of agricultural products imported to Moscow and the Moscow region work on the exchange. This allows us to quickly find suppliers in Belarus and make purchases of any volume, concluding transactions with one or several Belarusian agricultural enterprises at once. Therefore, for many Moscow companies engaged in wholesale trade in food products, the exchange platform serves as a one-stop shop through which they can gain direct access to the Belarusian market," the press service of BUCE commented.
Since the beginning of the year, 144 new companies from the Moscow region have joined BUCE, and at present the total number of participants in exchange trading from this region is 1,473.
JSC "Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange" was established in 2004. The first trades took place in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises in exporting their products and to help foreign companies enter the Belarusian market. The exchange trades a wide range of metal, timber,
agricultural , industrial, and consumer goods.
