A drunk driver struck a teenager on a scooter. A court has issued a verdict in the high-profile accident in Gomel.

November 11, Gomel. The Novobelitsky District COURT of Gomel issued a verdict in a criminal case regarding a traffic violation committed by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated.A regional court has charged the teenager with ALCOHOL intoxication , which resulted in the negligent infliction of grievous bodily harm, under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code, BelTA learned from the regional court.
The accident in which the teenager was injured occurred in early August. According to the case file, the driver, drunk, was driving a Honda Civic at night. "She showed inattention to the traffic situation and drove off the roadway onto the shoulder, where she struck a teenager born in 2011. The boy was riding a scooter along the shoulder in the same direction. As a result of the accident, he suffered grievous bodily harm," the regional court stated.
The court found the defendant guilty. Under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code, she was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony. She is also disqualified from operating any type of vehicle for eight years. 
The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
