Ministry of Agriculture and Food: there is enough milk on the domestic market, but there are difficulties with tetrapack

August 4, MINSK. There is enough MILK on the domestic market, but there are difficulties with tetrapack due to sanctions. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vadim Shagoiko told journalists today, BelTA has learned.

He stressed that the domestic market is provided with milk. "The country has a very high level of development of dairy cattle breeding. With the production of 7.8 million tons of milk last year, we consume about 3 million tons, the rest is exported. This year, we continue to increase production volumes. Milk is sent for processing, we produce a wide range of cheeses, butter, whole milk products. We meet the needs of our population by 100%, this is a paramount task," Vadim Shagoiko emphasized.

According to him, in order to avoid interruptions in the supply of dairy products on the domestic market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food together with MART, regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee are carrying out purposeful work. The needs of the regions and Minsk for whole-milk products have been determined, a strict delivery schedule has been set, and its implementation is being monitored.

Commenting on the rumors about the lack of milk in stores, the Deputy Minister said: “It is necessary to note a certain narrowing of the range of dairy products associated with packaging. There are certain difficulties with tetrapacks, but this issue is being resolved. Our manufacturers are looking for other markets for the supply of this packaging, cooperation with manufacturers in CHINA and other friendly countries. At present, batches have already been brought in for testing to replace this packaging in order to return the assortment familiar to people that was before the sanctions. In the meantime, in order to avoid a decrease in volumes, Belarusian producers have actively reorganized into the production of milk in PET bottles, in film".
