MINSK . European Union Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski has promised farmers solutions for restoring perennial meadows next week. This was stated by the President of the Lithuanian Association of Agricultural Companies Eimantas Pranauskas after a meeting with the Commissioner in Brussels, reports the portal Baltija.eu.
“We talked about meadows, about
MILK , about cooperation. Regarding meadows, he said that next week we will already have an answer. He said that this is a technical question and that they will talk to our Minister of Agriculture,” Pranauskas said.
According to him, the requirement to sow meadows on some arable lands and not use them for other economic purposes is especially relevant at the present time and creates many challenges, since the sowing season will begin soon.
On January 8, farmers across Lithuania lit bonfires to protest against the government's agricultural policies, increased excise taxes on liquefied natural gas, and called for solutions to the protracted
crisis in the dairy industry and other problems.
A new wave of protests is scheduled for January 23-26.
