Investment in cultured meat increased sixfold last year

According to an independent study by Euromonitor International, the global market for plant-based meat alternatives has grown to $4 billion.

 

In the US alone , sales of plant-based protein alternatives totaled $7 billion. 112 new brands of analogues of meat, eggs and dairy products were launched into the trade turnover, which is 10% more than in 2019.

In 2020, the total amount of investments in start-ups for growing meat in laboratory conditions exceeded $350 million: it increased six times compared to 2019 and almost doubled all previous investments in this direction of biotechnology development.

Singapore was the first and only country in the world to legislate the sale of cultured meat, after which San Francisco-headquartered startup Eat Just launched its GOOD Meat brand in the 1880 restaurant chain and the foodpanda marketplace with an express home delivery service. Just last week, this supplier of alternative products raised $170 million, including for sales expansion.
