A Minsk resident was driving at 130 km/h and caused a fatal accident. The court sentenced him.

November 5, Minsk . The Leninsky District Prosecutor's Office of Minsk upheld the state prosecution against a 43-year-old Minsk resident who caused a fatal traffic accident, the Minsk Prosecutor's Office information service told BelTA.

The man is charged with violating traffic rules, negligently causing death and grievous bodily harm, as well as knowingly leaving a victim in a life-threatening condition. On May 7, the accused, intoxicated, was driving an Audi A4 along Lenin Street in Minsk at a speed of at least 130 km/h when he entered an intersection on a yellow light and collided with a Volkswagen Polo. As a result of the accident, a passenger in the Audi A4 died in the hospital from his injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen suffered grievous bodily harm and was assigned a Group II disability.
After the accident, the accused fled the scene without rendering assistance to the victims, who were in a life-threatening condition.

Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Leninsky District Court of Minsk delivered a guilty verdict. Pursuant to Part 4 of Article 317 and Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus , the sentence was eight years' imprisonment, a fine of 400 basic units (Br16,800), and a deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for eight years.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed and contested.
