Russia cannot cope with import dependence on a number of food products

Russia grows more than it needs for domestic needs, wheat and sunflower, has completely replaced "Bush's legs", and there is enough of its own pork too. But it cannot cope with import dependence on vegetables and potatoes, milk and beef, as well as technologically more complex products - seeds, hatching eggs, vitamins and amino acids. Let's be honest - in 2022 it will not be possible to solve this problem.

The government expects in 2022 to provide the necessary level of production in the basic areas of the Food Security Doctrine, primarily for dairy and vegetable products. “In our country, indicators for milk and dairy products still fall short of the indicators of the doctrine, vegetables and melons still fall short. It is in these areas that additional emphasis needs to be placed,” said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko (quoted by Rossiya 24).

In 2022, a separate federal program for the development of vegetable growing, which is being developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, should help solve the problem. It also includes subsidies for private households. But in a year it will be problematic to raise potato production, which has been falling for the past 20 years, and build dozens of vegetable stores, to put it mildly. The same is true with cabbage, carrots, onions - the very vegetables of the "borscht set", with the rise in prices for which the authorities fought this year.

The hatching egg is another product that showed "character" this year. Russia imports about 20% of its needs from abroad. The authorities plan next year to begin reimbursing the capital costs of investors who have invested in the construction of such enterprises, and at the same time increase duties on imported eggs. Again, it is unlikely that such enterprises will be built in a year, but the ice has broken.

It is more difficult with import substitution of seeds, vitamins, food ingredients, plant protection products. We have advanced in our country only in the production of seeds, and even then not for all crops - for example, sugar beet seeds are 100% imported.

The peak of growth in food prices came in 2021 Valentina Matvienko

However, a purely Russian mechanism for solving problems "until the fried rooster pecks" works better for us than all decisions of party congresses or decrees. The sanctions forced us to replace American chicken legs. The abrupt closure of China to Russian pollock spurred the search for alternative distribution channels. You look, and the coming year will bring new ideas.
