The trade visit will begin in Hainan, where Minister Haydon will lead Ireland's participation in the Hainan Expo 2023 along with the Irish Embassy, Bord Bia and a number of Irish food and beverage companies. Minister Haydon will take the opportunity as a keynote speaker at the show to highlight opportunities for trade between Ireland and CHINA, focusing on promoting Ireland's high quality and safe agrifood products.

“Ireland is proud of its world-renowned quality-assured food and beverage products, which are already a hit with many Chinese consumers. The Chinese market offers exciting new opportunities for the Irish agri-food sector,” Haydon said.

The minister will then travel to Shanghai for a series of high-level meetings with Irish agri-food companies and their Chinese clients, facilitated by Bord Bia.

“As a leading exporter of quality, safe and sustainable food, it is important for Ireland to personally reconnect with high priority markets in Asia. China , with its growing middle class, is a key market,” Haydon said. “After the turmoil of recent years, I look forward to talking face-to-face with leading Irish exporters and their Chinese clients, exploring opportunities with them to further develop long-term trade.”

“In particular, I look forward to discussing with Bord Bia and Irish exporters their plans to open up the beef market in China in early January, the result of my department's ongoing efforts with the support of the Beijing Embassy,” he concluded.
