Due to the deteriorating state of fire safety, the prosecutor's office of the Mogilev region has taken organizational and practical measures to strengthen supervision in this area. BELTA was informed about this by the information service of the Mogilev region prosecutor's office.

“In the Mogilev region in 2023, 788 fires were registered, which is 7.5% more than in 2022. 88 people died in fires in the region. Most of the fires occurred in residential buildings,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Thus, 91 meetings of the councils of public law enforcement centers were held, at which the unlawful behavior of more than 540 individuals was considered. 25 citizens leading an antisocial lifestyle, abusing alcoholic beverages and violating fire safety rules were given official warnings about the inadmissibility of such violations.

In the Chaussky, Bobruisk, Glusk and Klichevsky districts, with the participation of the leadership of the prosecutor's office of the Mogilev region, coordination meetings were held, where the results of the work of prevention subjects in the field of ensuring fire safety in the residential sector were reviewed. In addition, in the Dribinsky district, the prosecutor's office of the Mogilev region checked the compliance of local authorities and crime prevention entities with the requirements of the fire safety legislation.

“Despite the decrease in the total number of fires, in the Dribinsky district since 2021, a steady trend has formed towards an increase in the number of people killed in fires: in 2021 one person died, in 2022 - two, and in 2023 - five people. Among the dead were four pensioners, including three living alone and one unemployed citizen. All the dead were intoxicated," the prosecutor's office said.

The audit showed that the executive and administrative bodies of the Dribinsky district did not pay due attention to the analysis of the state of fire safety and did not identify the causes and conditions that contributed to offenses in the field of fire safety. There was also no control over timely and high-quality preventive work on the part of competent services, village executive committees and other organizations. The work of prevention subjects to prevent fires did not fully correspond to the algorithm for organizing work to prevent offenses that could result in the death of people from external causes in the housing stock.

In connection with the identified violations, a proposal was submitted to the Dribinsky District Executive Committee, which was considered at a meeting with the participation of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Mogilev Region Sergei Parfenov.

Verification and supervisory activities in this area will continue.
