The number of alcohol-intoxicated people in the Gomel Region decreased by almost half in the first half of this year. This was announced by Alexander Shastaylo,
HEAD of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee's Department of Internal Affairs, at a meeting of the regional executive committee, where one of the agenda items was the implementation of Presidential Directive No. 1 of March 11, 2004, "On Measures to Strengthen Public Safety and Discipline" in the Gomel Region for the first half of 2025, BelTA reports.
The Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan took part in the discussion of the issue.
Kubrakov emphasized that the analysis of deaths from external causes in each case must be thorough and in-depth.
As the head of the Department of Internal Affairs reported, law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with government agencies, continue to work to stabilize the operational situation in the region. "Measures have been taken to maintain an adequate level of public and road safety, restore order and ensure discipline in agricultural organizations, curb mismanagement, and counter the drug threat," noted Alexander Shastaylo.
"The level of criminalization of society is declining. And the crime rate per 10,000 people has reached its lowest level in the past five years," the head stated.
"The number of crimes committed in public places and by intoxicated individuals has almost halved," he added. The overall number of serious and especially serious crimes, including those against life and
HEALTH, has decreased.
"Special attention is being paid to the state of law and order in the agro-industrial complex. In the first half of the year, employees conducted 1,711 monitoring activities. 429 recommendations were submitted to eliminate the causes and conditions that facilitate offenses. More than 120 petty thefts of inventory items and 60 cases of illegal circulation of liquid petroleum fuels were prevented," the head of the Department of Internal Affairs announced the results of the work.
Alexander Shastaylo also noted that failure to observe basic labor discipline leads to drunkenness in the workplace. All instances of illegal activity are subject to legal assessment.
"As for drunkenness and theft, we must work very strictly," emphasized Ivan Kubrakov. He also emphasized the importance of proper oversight of agricultural workers and others. Citizens not employed in the economy must also remain a constant focus.
The issue of combating drug-related crime also remains relevant, the head of the Department of Internal Affairs added. "Analysis showed that plant-based narcotics are also in demand among drug users. At the same time, drug crops continue to grow on agricultural lands in the region. Thus, during the special "Poppy" program in June and July, 588 instances of drug-containing plants growing were identified in the region, and over 20 tons of oilseed poppy and hemp were destroyed over a total area of over 30 hectares," emphasized Alexander Shastaylo.
