Lukashenko on the lifting of US sanctions against Belavia: "Thank them for this."

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko thanked the United States for lifting some sanctions against Belarus, BelTA reports.

"The Americans have started lifting sanctions against us—thanks to them for that. it will make our work easier. This is also very important," the HEAD of state noted at a meeting with Valentin Rybakov, Belarus's Permanent Representative to the UN.

According to Lukashenko, lifting sanctions is not the main focus of Washington and Minsk's joint work, but it "has an impact on the economy, and the economy  is people's lives."

The US lifted sanctions on the Belarusian airline Belavia , US President's Special Representative John Cole announced at a meeting with Lukashenko on September 11. According to Cole, the decision was made by US President Donald Trump . As a result of the sanctions easing, Belavia will be able to service its Boeing aircraft and purchase components for them, the US Embassy in Lithuania explained.

The United States imposed sectoral sanctions on the Belarusian economy in August 2021, following the EU and the UK in connection with the situation surrounding the 2020 presidential elections and the forced landing of a Ryanair plane in MINSK and the detention of the former editor-in-chief of a TELEGRAM channel.xxxxx Roman Protasevich.

The EU blacklisted Belavia in December of that year, and the US did the same in 2023.
