Sowing campaign in Sakhalin is in full swing

The sowing campaign in the island region began in the first ten days of May with the planting of early varieties of cabbage. Now spring field work has begun in almost every district of the region.
“This year, early spring in many regions of RUSSIA marked the early start of the sowing campaign for farmers. The Sakhalin region is no exception. Warm weather made it possible to start work a week earlier than last year. Now the active phase is underway, the farms are planting potatoes , cabbage, sowing carrots , beets and other vegetables,” said Ekaterina Slivkina, HEAD of the Department of Crop Production and Agricultural Mechanization of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture and Trade.
So, at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsky state farm, 100 hectares of potatoes have been planted to date, while the main volume is varieties of elite and super-elite reproductions, 20 hectares of cabbage, and carrots and beets are also fully sown. It is worth noting that this year the farm purchased 4 new varieties of potatoes for variety change and renewal of seed material. In general, the state farm plans to plant 555 hectares of potatoes, 60 hectares of cabbage, 30 hectares of carrots and beets, and 5 hectares of other howling. In addition to the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsky state farm, the Teplichny state farm, Sokolovsky JSC and Novoe LLC began planting "second bread" and vegetables.
The sowing campaign is conducted not only among large agricultural enterprises, but also among peasant farms. For example, farmers of the Uglegorsk district have actively joined the field work, who are now planting potatoes and sowing table root crops. To date, 24 hectares of potatoes and 16 hectares of open ground vegetables have already been planted.
In total, potatoes have been planted on an area of ​​0.15 thousand hectares, and open ground vegetables on 0.14 thousand hectares.
Sowing and fertilizing of perennial fodder crops is actively going on in the region. Thus, forage grasses were sown on 0.9 thousand hectares and top dressing of perennial grasses was carried out on an area of ​​3.5 thousand hectares.
Recall that this year the sown area of ​​tilled crops remains at the level of 2022. In total, it is planned to sow about 2,000 hectares with potatoes and 600 hectares of vegetables in open ground, as well as renew perennial grasses and sow annual fodder crops on an area of ​​5.6 thousand hectares. In total, fodder crops occupy 25.9 thousand hectares. In general, the gross harvest will be at least 44 thousand tons of potatoes and 22.6 thousand tons of vegetables.
