The Yerevan Brandy Factory (YBC), owned by the French company Pernod Ricard, has stopped exporting its products to Russia, Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said.
“I have no official data, but it seems to be official: YBC will stop exporting to Russia. This may affect the purchase of the grape harvest , and we must monitor the situation and respond as necessary,” Kerobyan said at a meeting of the Armenian parliamentary commission on economic issues.
At the same time, he reminded, wine varieties are being planted more and more in the republic, and cognac-oriented viticulture no longer dominates in Armenia as completely as it did 10-15 years ago. This allows diversifying production, the minister added.
Yerevan Brandy Factory (YBC) is Armenia's leading enterprise in the production of alcoholic beverages and the leader in terms of production and EXPORT of Armenian brandies.
In 1998, the French Pernod Ricard bought the YBC for $30 million. The plant, in particular, produces cognac "Ararat".
Pernod Ricard owns dozens of brands, including Ararat cognac, Chivas Regal whiskey, Jameson, Ballantine's, Olmeca tequila, Havana Club rum and Absolut vodka. The French company is considered the second largest global producer of alcoholic beverages after the British Diageo.
In March 2022, the concern suspended the export of alcohol to Russia, but already in April of this year, the Swedish edition of Kristianstadsbladet reported that Pernod Ricard decided to resume the supply of Absolut vodka. A week later, the company abandoned the idea due to criticism of its employees.
