The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed to the lack of common sense in the policy of the European Union

The European Union's policy towards Russia is sorely lacking in common sense, for this reason European enterprises have already suffered multi-billion dollar losses, said Evgeny Ivanov, deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The policy of the European Union in the Russian direction is experiencing an acute shortage of common sense and rationality. The EU course is based on the political task of demonstrating solidarity with the Kyiv regime at any cost, increasing the unlawful sanctions pressure on Russia,” the diplomat said.

In such circumstances, the European authorities are ready not to take into account the multibillion-dollar losses of citizens and businesses. Ivanov called the EU's actions "short-sighted" and accused European politicians of ignoring the legal rights of Russians and their concerns.

From the end of February, Western countries began to impose sanctions against Russia . The restrictions affected Russian companies, banks and citizens, including officials, parliamentarians, public figures, heads of state companies and journalists. In the latest - the fifth package of sanctions - the EU also banned coal imports and restricted cargo transportation. Since May, the European Commission has been developing the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. On the night of May 31, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced that European countries had agreed to a ban on the import of more than two-thirds of Russian oil . 

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the EU about the consequences of "sanctions obsession". He said that anti-Russian sanctions could provoke insurmountable difficulties for the union itself and its inhabitants, as well as cause a global crisis. He cited “myopic, overblown political ambitions” and “Russophobia” as the reasons for imposing sanctions.
