RIA Novosti learned about the possible lifting of the veto on Russia in the EU

As part of the new package of sanctions, the European Union will remove the right of veto when voting on issues related to Russia. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in the EU.

“The EU will certainly accelerate the development of the eighth package of sanctions... Several new people will be included in the lists. Also, EU ministers are likely to discuss ... in the coming weeks the possibility of lifting the right of veto for member states when deciding on sanctions packages against Russia,” the source said.

The new package of sanctions was announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who met with the foreign ministers of the EU countries. The sanctions will be a response to the partial mobilization announced by Vladimir Putin, as well as to the referendums that will be held in the LPR, DPR and in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russian troops.

Politico's diplomatic sources report that the new EU sanctions will affect the import of polished diamonds from Russia. Diplomats expect that among the list of proposed measures will be a cap on Russian oil prices , which is currently being discussed in the G7, as well as an expansion of the list of sanctions against Russian individuals, a ban on the import of Russian diamonds and other luxury goods.
