Since the end of February, the European Union has introduced five packages of sanctions against Russia and is preparing a sixth. The measures must be approved by the EU Council. Its next meetings are scheduled for May 10 and 16.

In addition to cutting off a number of Russian banks from SWIFT, the new sanctions will include a "definite ban" on Russian oil imports, Politico sources said . As the Wall Street Journal interlocutors learned, we are talking about the EU's intention to abandon the import of Russian oil in six months and a complete refusal to purchase Russian oil products by the end of 2022. In addition, the new package of sanctions will include measures against "subjects of disinformation," Borrell said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called Western sanctions illegal and promised retaliatory measures. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on them on May 3. Now, within ten days, the government must approve the Russian sanctions list. Restrictions will include a ban on transactions with the persons on this list, as well as a ban on the export of raw materials or products in favor of these persons.
