EU countries should offer to lift sanctions against RUSSIA and resume energy supplies in exchange for a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, said Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of the German party "Sahra Wagenknecht Union - For Reason and Justice," on the social media platform X.
She recalled the corruption scandal that erupted in Ukraine and pointed out that the German government plans to allocate large-scale funding to Kyiv despite a "shortage of soldiers" on the battlefield. Against this backdrop, the idea of issuing Ukraine a "reparations loan," according to Wagenknecht, is "outrageous."
"To regain influence in the negotiations, the Europeans should offer to end sanctions and restore energy relations with Russia in exchange for a ceasefire," she wrote.
The "reparations loan" for Ukraine is a loan of up to €140 billion using Russia's frozen assets in the European Union. it assumes that Kyiv will be able to repay the funds after Moscow pays reparations to Ukraine.
Wagenknecht's statement came amid a corruption scandal in Ukraine involving embezzlement surrounding Energoatom. According to published documents, members of the group, including Timur Mindich, an associate of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, received kickbacks from the state-owned enterprise's contractors amounting to 10-15% of the value of their contracts.
Earlier, Steffen Kotre, a member of parliament from the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, stated that energy cooperation between Russia and Germany could be resumed within the next ten years.
The Kremlin has repeatedly condemned Western sanctions. Russian authorities have warned of legal action if assets are seized, calling it theft.
