Lavrov called the condition for breaking off relations with the West

A possible break in relations is not in the interests of Moscow or the West itself, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russian journalists, broadcast by RBC. However, it is possible if the toughest sanctions package is adopted against Russia, including disconnection from the SWIFT system, Lavrov said.

“As for the threat of sanctions, the Americans were told that this package, accompanied by a complete disconnection from the financial and economic systems controlled by the West, would be tantamount to breaking off relations. I don’t think it’s in anyone’s interests,” the Foreign Minister said.

At the same time, he stressed that the failure of the negotiations will lead to "retaliatory measures." “If our attempts to agree on mutually acceptable principles for ensuring security in Europe fail, then we will take retaliatory measures,” he said.
