Petersburg announced the opening of another hospital

Until the end of the year, the construction of a transformer hospital for 800 beds will begin in St. Petersburg. This was announced on the air of Radio Russia by the governor of the city Alexander Beglov. The multidisciplinary building will be the fifth such facility built during the pandemic and will be located at the Janelidze Institute for Emergency Medicine.

The first transformer building was erected in just six months and commissioned in December 2020 at the Hospital for War Veterans, subsequently the same ones appeared in the hospital of St. Luke and in the 33rd hospital in Kolpino.

The advantage of such buildings is the ability to quickly convert them into an infectious diseases hospital. From these buildings, through special passages, you can get to other buildings of the hospital, where sanitary locks and checkpoints are equipped. The transformers are provided with the necessary diagnostic equipment, including a PCR laboratory, CT and ultrasound machines.

Maxim Kabanov, head of the Hospital for War Veterans, spoke in detail about how transformers will work in an interview with RBC Petersburg: “Today it is a neurological department, and tomorrow it can be reformatted into a surgical or infectious disease department. This is very convenient not only during epidemics, but also if it becomes necessary to increase the number of hospitals in the city in any direction,” he said.

The day before, Governor Alexander Beglov also said that in December it is planned to open a 400-bed building under construction at St. George's Hospital, which will work with patients with coronavirus infection. “We provide the required number of beds in the red zones, allocate additional funds for medicines and equipment, and strengthen the material base of our hospitals,” Beglov added. “Last week, we provided the Elizabethan Hospital with almost 300 million rubles for the modernization of equipment.”
