Despite the season, SUGAR rises in price. According to official data from the State Statistics Service, the average consumer price of sugar in Ukraine in September was UAH 28.69. In September 2020, a year ago, sugar cost an average of 14.94 hryvnias. – PioneerProduct
The number of operating sugar factories is decreasing every year, as of October 18, according to Ukrtsukor, 29 factories have been launched. 471 thousand tons of sugar were produced and 3.57 million tons of sugar beets were processed.
According to information published by the landlord.com portal, the country is losing its position in the world rankings of manufacturers, and the future prospects for the industry are generally catastrophic. For the current sugar-refining season, Ukrainian factories need to purchase at least 300 million cubic meters of natural gas, the price of which has soared, and sugar has risen in price accordingly.
The problems of sugar producers, in turn, affect the economy of dairy enterprises. Arsen Didur, Executive DIRECTOR of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (SMPU), says that despite the season for processing a new crop of sugar beet, when the price is always lower, this season gave dairy plants an unpleasant surprise - the price of sugar, on the contrary, turned out to be high.
Dairy plants in Ukraine, for which sugar is a significant cost component, are concerned about this situation. The catastrophic rise in gas prices and the simultaneous rise in prices for MILK and sugar make their products uncompetitive, put enterprises on the brink of survival and force them to consider a very undesirable, but possible option of temporarily or even completely shutting down production.
SMPU calls on officials to pay attention to the emergency situation in the industry and prevent the closure of enterprises important for the food industry.
