USA: Week 16 Pig Market Review 2021

As of April 23, 2021, the USDA reports that the average cost of pork products in the US market has fallen by $2.76. Over the past week, there was an increase in prices only for ribs ($0.87) and ham ($0.17).

Pig futures also edged lower on Thursday, with CME June lean hog futures falling 0.975 cents to hit 103.550 cents a pound.

After the close of trading, USDA's monthly cold storage report showed US stocks of frozen pork belly at 35.26 million pounds as of March 31, down 55% from a year ago.

USDA's Weekly EXPORT Sales Report showed a 22,100-ton drop in net pork sales for the week ended April 15, including significant sales cancellations in Mexico that the USDA attributed to a reporting error from 2020. But shipments of pork for the week amounted to 43,900 tons, and this is the maximum of the current marketing year.
