Cattle prices continue to fall, which is reflected in the cost of MEAT category Choice, which fell by 80 cents. At the same time, Select block beef increased in price by $0.20 over the week. Slaughter, as well as beef production, decreased over the week, but on an annualized basis, the increase in cattle meat production reached 1.8% due to an increase in live weight.
Futures for the next April contract are trading flat, but contracts for the flying months are rising in price against news of a reduction in the number of cattle in Australia and other regions. However, this information has not yet been reflected in the contracts for fattening cattle, which continue to decline in price for the second week in a row.
