The US has launched a crucial review of Mexico's blowfly control program.

Juan Carlos Flores Marquez, HEAD of the Livestock Division of the Ministry of Rural Development (SDR), said that on the first day of the US authorities' visit   , various aspects of livestock movement and traceability were discussed.

The purpose of this assessment is to verify the actions taken by the organization to contain and prevent livestock from entering the affected areas, and to verify the results of the trapping system initiated in early August, when 422 traps and the system were installed.

The inspection also included an analysis of EXPORT pens where animals are received from other organizations, particularly from Durango.

The current assessment is positive: no risk observations have been identified, only a few minor recommendations. Federal authorities emphasized that the work carried out in Chihuahua was recognized for its effectiveness and the state government's willingness to allocate its own resources to implement the program.

Thanks to this financial support, over 5,000 producers have been trained to identify and report suspected cases of myiasis, and the work of accredited veterinarians in preliminary cattle examination and MEAT disease diagnosis has been strengthened.flies .

Information obtained through traps and surveillance systems is integrated into the national control system in a timely manner.

The inspection program will continue today, Tuesday, in Parral, where the offices of the Individual Livestock Identification System (SIINIGA) and the Livestock Registration and Movement System (REEMO) will be visited to verify movement protocols. Quarantine stations for livestock located in Los Charcos, on the border with Durango, and in Escalon, near Jiménez, will also be inspected.

Juan Carlos Flores said these actions are aimed at ensuring that cattle entering the state undergo the necessary checks, which will reduce the risk of the spread of blowfly and protect livestock production in Chihuahua.

The visit is crucial to getting US authorities to approve opening the border to live cattle exports to the US, which would allow trade relations to resume.
