At a press conference on November 9, Sergei Lisovsky announced that the Government of the Russian Federation had decided to launch an experiment on the labeling of veterinary drugs from December 1, 2023. The essence of this experiment is to introduce an effective and inexpensive control system using special markings.

As Sergey Lisovsky explained, one of the key advantages of this system is the possibility of online monitoring, thanks to which you can immediately see all implementation processes and compare them with information about the production volumes of a particular enterprise. Thus, it will become clear whether this enterprise sells products approved for sale, or whether it is a product from an unknown source.

“Illegal veterinary drugs can be used for sabotage against the Russian agricultural industry. If medicines are prohibited for sale on marketplaces, moreover, we have introduced labeling, then our situation with veterinary medicines is much worse. A very simplified accounting system, plus a large flow of veterinary drugs goes through the countries of the Eurasian Union, and is not controlled in any way. These are preparations for both industrial use, that is, for farm animals, and for domestic ones. There may also be sabotage, because the loss of a large number of farm animals is a blow to the country’s economic condition and food security,” he said.

The deputy cited several examples where illegal veterinary drugs were placed on marketplaces with packaging in foreign languages without translation.

“This is a violation of the law. This means that the drug has not passed certification, testing, or anything. We simply have a huge volume of drugs that are unclear how they appeared, their effectiveness is unclear, because they can be dangerous for pets, and we know how sensitive people are to the HEALTH of their pets,” said Sergei Lisovsky.
