Miratorg carries out import substitution in leather production

ABH Miratorg, the leading agro-industrial holding in Russia, is actively replacing imported materials in the technological processes of leather production with domestic analogues. The goal of the program is to reduce dependence on imports and reduce the impact of logistics costs on the cost of production. In annual terms, the planned savings from import substitution will amount to 14.2 million rubles.

The tannery produces automotive, furniture, shoe, belt and lining crust. After the modernization of the cleaning-ash and tanning sections, carried out at the beginning of 2022, the production capacity of the plant is 135 thousand m2 of crust per month.

Leather production is a long and multi-stage technological cycle using a large number of chemical materials. Most of them are produced by European chemical companies.

As part of the import substitution program, since April of this year, Miratorg has replaced imported anti-boron material in ash-cleaning processes with a domestic analogue. Previously, the plant replaced Russian imported dispersing material for dyeing and greasing processes. In addition, technologists have worked out the replacement of foreign degreasing materials with analogues produced in the Russian Federation and are already partially using them in technology. The tannery is ready to fully switch to the use of domestic degreasing materials if Russian suppliers are able to provide the required volume of supply. Active work is also underway to replace imported acrylates, fatliquoring materials and fillers, which account for about 30% of the cost of leather products, with materials from Russian chemical companies.

“Due to the quality and environmental transparency, the plant's products are in demand on the Russian, European and Asian markets. It is important that the tannery uses the basic raw materials of its own production. The skins come from a meat processing complex near the plant, which significantly saves logistics costs and improves the quality of raw materials, since it bypasses the conservation stage. The company's technologists will continue to work on analogues of materials for processing in order to maintain the production of high-quality products at the level of world standards in the required volume, ”commented the press center of the Miratorg agricultural holding.
