French supermarket giant Carrefour CARR.PA, the official supplier of fresh food to athletes in the Olympic Village, organized a visit on Thursday to a farm in Villeron, north of Paris, by one of its suppliers for the Games. Lionel Plasmans, the farm's owner, said he was honored to supply potatoes to the Olympic Games.

Using more than 600 tonnes of fresh produce provided by Carrefour, catering company Sodexo EXHO.PA will be responsible for providing approximately 40,000 meals a day for the 15,000 athletes in the Olympic Village.

According to the Paris 2024 Food Vision, a quarter of the food supplied to athletes must be produced within 250 kilometers of the competition site to reduce the carbon footprint of transporting fresh food. French products are also a priority: it is planned that 80% of the food supplied will be produced in France.

“Whether we are at the site in Marseille or at the site in Ile-de-France, every time we integrate more local products, because we want to combine good nutrition , the pleasure of catering, with the challenge of reducing carbon emissions” , said Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 organizing committee .

This year's Games also aim to reduce the amount of animal products presented at the event by half compared to 2021, as well as include a balanced vegetarian menu in all food options.

According to Food Vision, at least 60% of food sold to spectators will be vegetarian, with the exception of football stadiums where the target is 40%.
