Chinese mutton imports down 22% in H1 2022

In the first half of 2022, CHINA 's mutton imports dropped sharply, with a total of 189,100 tons of mutton imported, down 22.2% from the same period last year when 24.29 tons of mutton were imported.

During the reporting period, the volume of mutton imports to China almost returned to the level of imports in 2018. The total value of mutton imports from January to June was about 11.7 million US dollars , showing a gradual downward trend, and the lowest value of imports was recorded in June at about 1.42 million US dollars. January 2022 turned out to be the peak consumption season with a maximum import volume of 38,100 tons and a minimum import volume of 24,300 tons in the off-season, in June.

 

In the first half of 2022, China mainly imported four categories of mutton: frozen mutton on the bone (79.62%), frozen mutton in carcasses and sides (11.78%), frozen boneless mutton (5.14%), and frozen lamb in carcasses and half carcasses (3.39%).
