Discussion of the possibility of excluding jamon from the list of sanctioned products may begin at the expert level between representatives of Spain and RUSSIA.
This was announced by the adviser on agriculture of the Spanish Embassy in Moscow, Carlos Larranaga. According to him, the Spanish side would be ready to consider this issue with the leadership of the Russian Federation. He added that official Madrid would like the food embargo to be lifted.
"The embargo did us a lot of harm, jamon was among the most affected products. Spain, like other EU countries, is trying to change this situation, but this situation does not depend on us," RIA Novosti quoted an employee of the Spanish embassy as saying.
Larranaga stressed that the Russian market has always been one of the target markets for Spain. The goal of official Madrid is to resolve the situation with food sanctions as soon as possible, the representative of the embassy said. To do this, the Spanish side continues to support distribution and communication channels, the diplomat said.
Russia , in response to Western sanctions in August 2014, banned the import of a number of food products. Under the ban, in particular, were MEAT, sausages, fish, seafood, fruits and vegetables from the US , EU, CANADA, Australia, Norway, Ukraine, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland and the UK.
