Farmers are demanding an ambitious rescue plan that includes measures both at EU level and at the level of the Spanish government and autonomous communities. Demonstrations will take place over the coming weeks.
The agricultural sector in Europe and Spain is mired in growing frustration and unrest due to the difficult conditions and stifling bureaucracy generated by EU rules, ASAJA said. - Farmers have to contend with a deregulated market that imports agricultural products from third countries at low prices.
The organizations believe that these products , manufactured outside the EU, do not comply with internal EU rules and represent a contradiction and hypocrisy in EU policy actions. ASAJA added that unfair competition threatens the viability of thousands of farms in Spain and Europe.
The organizations are calling for the suspension of negotiations on a number of free trade agreements with third countries, as well as increased controls at the border with Morocco to ensure compliance with internal EU regulations and the tariff levels established in the free trade agreement.
Farmer protests have already begun in various European countries, particularly in Belgium, Germany and France.
